Dominate Local Search with High Spark Media’s Local Marketing Cheat Sheet

Use these tools and techniques to lay a foundation for your success. Chances are you will also dominate your competition who are either ignorant, cheap, or too lazy to take these steps.

1. Local Citations and Directory Listings

It’s critical to have your business listed in dozens and dozens of locally focused directories and review sites. This will give your car dealership the needed authority to help boost your local maps listing. A large number of accurate citations will strongly influence your Automotive SEO. By accurate we mean you should always ensure your car dealership’s Name, Address, and Phone (NAP) are correctly listed on each local directory. Then refresh your listings every month to keep the search engines aware.

2. Review Sites

Reputation management has become front of mind for many dealerships and is now considered a separate discipline from automotive SEO. Review sites are good for more than simply positive PR about your rooftop. The NAP, or name, address, and phone number, for your dealership should be exactly the same in all of these sites as in your Google and Bing listings. This is not reputation marketing. For more about putting your good reputation in front of car shoppers, see our page ‘Reputation Marketing’.

3. Videos

While videos are an important part of a digital marketing strategy, they also serve as excellent sources of relevant citations and local backlinks to your car dealership.

4. Press Releases

We see many automotive dealerships writing press releases because they get listed in search results. Never miss the chance to generate quality fresh backlinks to your automotive website and to your social media platforms using your release. You can also embed videos or optimized photos in your press releases for even more “Google juice”.

5. Social Media Content

Since early 2012 Google (and likely Bing) have used social factors to help rank your retail automotive dealership for key automotive local search terms. Things like your Facebook fan page, Twitter account, and even Pinterest and Instagram now play a real role in determining where your automotive dealership will rank.

6. Blog Content

Your blog is critical to the automotive SEO process. Your blog’s content must be written and structured in a way that Google and Bing recognize the fresh content that is marketing your dealership. The more often you publish fresh content about your vehicle inventory, automotive financing, automotive pricing, and even specific dealership updates the better. Google and Bing will start to visit your automotive website more frequently, and will likely discover more pages to share in search results.

7. Link Building

NOT link buying, but link building. Local search for your automotive dealership should not include spammy, automated backlinks. These mass generated links provide virtually no value today, and are simply a remnant of the SEO community’s past. Unfortunately, many SEO companies don’t realize this yet!
Links from other automotive related sites, press releases, social media properties, videos, and authority sites will make a difference in your automotive SEO success. Quality automotive SEO is about great content – whether on your website or across press releases and social media.

8. Be Mobile Friendly

Almost half of searches are from mobile devices (tablets and phones). Your web pages MUST be able to be viewed and navigated from a mobile device, both tablets and smartphones. And the pages that mobile users will see should invite the viewer to your car lot and showroom, or at least capture lead information.
